Poon hill is one of the easiest trek from Pokhara city. It has the routes in the Annapurna Sanctuary. Poon hill trek is the trek which every beginner should try onto. The trek can be done in 3 to 4 days. The trek encourages the trekkers to take a step further and attempt the Annapurna Circuit trek and Annapurna Base Camp trek. The sunrise spectacle from Poon Hill, which offers an awe-inspiring view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, is the trek’s highlight.

Altitude Considerations:
While the Poon Hill trek is generally considered suitable for most fitness levels, it’s essential to be mindful of altitude. Although the maximum altitude is relatively lower compared to other Himalayan treks, gradual acclimatization is crucial. Listen to your body, stay hydrated, and ascend slowly to avoid altitude sickness. If you experience any symptoms like headache, dizziness, or loss of appetite, consult with your guide immediately.
Weather and Seasons:
The best time to trek Poon Hill is in the month of Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). Here in these months the views are spectacular and the weather is nor too hot and rainy and nor too cold. But if you want to explore besides these time, you will enjoy the beautiful scenery and get to experience the warm welcome from the locals.
Trekking Permits:
The Annapurna Conservation Area Permit and Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card are very important for this trek. You will get this permit at the entry points or at the stations before the trekking routes.

Tour Plan
Day 01
- Drive to Nayapul and trek to Ulleri
- Drive to Nayapul after having breakfast in Pokhara
- After reaching Nayapul, hike to Ulleri (2070m / 6,791ft) for 3hrs approx.
- Overnight at a lodge in Ulleri.
Day 02
- Trek from Ulleri to Ghorepani
- Trek being from Ulleri to Ghorepani after having breakfast which takes approx. 2hrs.
- After crossing several streams and trekking through beautiful rhododendron and oak forest we will reach Nangethanti.
- From Nangethanti it is just 1-hour walk to Ghorepani.
- As we will have plenty of day remaining, we will stroll around the village and stay overnight in a beautiful tea house.
Day 03
- Trek from Ghorepani to Poon Hill to Ghandruk
- We will start our trek before dawn and hike to Poon hill base so that we will not miss the beautiful sunrise.
- It will take us nearly 1 hour to reach to the top of Poon hill from its base.
- Following our arrival at the top, we will wait for the sun to rise.
- The hike from Ghorepani to Ghandruk is of 6 hours.
- We will spend a night in a teahouse in Ghandruk.
Day 04
- Trek from Ghandruk to Nayapul and Drive back to Pokhara
- From Ghandruk via a scenic route, we will hike downhills waving goodbye to alluring mountains like Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Fishtail and Himchuli.
- After crossing beautiful rhododendron forest, streams and several suspensions bridges we will reach Birethanti.
- From Birethanti will hike down hills and follow Modi River to Nayapul.
- From Nayapul we will catch a local bus and will drive back to beautiful city Pokhara.
- We will stay in a hotel in lakeside and enjoy the musical night in Pokhara.
